Wedding Wednesday!

It has been a productive week! After much debate, I think that I may have finally chosen my bridal portrait. Thank you's to everyone who has patiently looked through the 100 plus pictures offering suggestions and listening to me shoot them down. I really do appreciate your help. I must get it ordered ASAP since a fabulous coupon for 60% off custom framing came in the mail yesterday!

Since work has begun having me work some weekends (after much protest), I had Friday off as comp time. Ofcourse, I spent the day meeting with vendors and I believe that I have finally made a decision on my florist. I have found someone who uses hydrangeas and peonies but is still with in my budget! If you have discussed my wedding with me at all, you have probably heard my dismay at the astronomical cost of my favorite flowers...I mean really, $15 a stem. One flower, have you lost your mind? Without further ado, I give you some of her bouquets. Leave a comment and let me know which one's you like the best!

While our countertops were being refinished on Saturday, D and I were very productive. We picked out tuxes for the wedding, and I must say I find them to be very dapper. After very little debate, D and I reached a verdict. As classic as possible. Black suiting, black bow tie and cumberbund. We will distinguish wedding party roles with different bouts.

Busy week with much progress and I couldn't be happier!

Today is brought to you by the letter "C"...

For COUNTERTOPS!!! I have new countertops! They are not blue! Life is good!

But like any project that I partake in, they have spurred a desire to revamp the floors. We'll see how D feels. I'll keep you posted.

Things that make me happy...

After that big fat vent, I decided to poke around on the internet and find some things that make me happy. Delight in them.

Invites, Invites, Go Away. AKA Wedding Wednesday

Now for a little wedding venting.

As I stated in my previous Wedding Wednesday, it is getting to be that time when decisions must be made. After looking for 600 and something odd days at magazines, mailings, websites and books full of overpriced paper, we must make a decision. Ofcourse, to David's great annoyance, we debated engraving, letterpress, thermography and basic printing. Did we want pockets, trifolds or ribbons? Do we know what that means, do we care? Which inclosures are necessary? Should we design them? Should we have someone else design them? Should we take on the DIY? Then there is the wording. Traditional, contemporary, or unique, everyone from the Knotties, to Martha, to the ever present Emily Post has an opinion.

I mean really, it needs to get a point across. We are getting married on May 1, 2010 and we would really like for you to be there. Why are there so many options for anal retentive people, such as moi, to spend hours pouring over and analyzing. I mean some of the options are incredible. And ridiculously expensive. I think that the idea of spending thousands of dollars on paper which you will mail to family and friends and even a few people that you don't even know is for the birds. It will take it's place on their fridge, bulletin board or catch all and be discarded once the day is over. That isn't very enviromentally minded, now is it.

As I type this a little bird is sitting on my shoulder reminding me that it is the very first impression that your guests will get of your special day. It will guide them as to the tone, the dress and overall vibe. They must be cohesive (my biggest fear is that all the individual selections, that I adore, will not produce an overall cohesive look). Moral of the vent. They are important, I know. I will have them and hopefully people will read them. I'm not sure what has gotten into me tonight, maybe Tropical Storm Ida and her crazy rain, but bah humbug.

Now for a pretty wedding inspiration board.

That's lovely isn't it. And that, my friends, is what it's all about!
Loves!

Wedding Wednesday...A Reflection

Sunday was our 6 month pre-versary. I will be married in 178 days. I find this to be incredibly overwhelming. Most normal people wouldn't, but I never claimed to be normal.

You see, when I first signed up for a membership on The Knot, it promptly told me that I had 700 and some odd days until I was married. "Cool," I thought, "that's an eternity." I have done nothing but take my time every step of the way and this week it hit me that I no longer have that much time to take.

Don't get me wrong. I do not regret my long engagement. At all. I think that it has been wonderful! I would recommend it to anyone. "Take your time," I would say. "Think everything through," I would say. I just took it for granted and now it is action time. Most everything has been contracted, except flowers, now time for pulling it all together.

The other night I pulled out everything that we already have purchased and laid the various favors, invites, fabric swatches, etc. across our dining room table. So far so good, I thought but my most constant worry is that the overall look won't be cohesive. I feel like on any given day I am dancing between to totally different concepts, a very soft elegant vs. a bright preppy. Hopefully, in the end it will look (somewhat) original and not like I was completely confused as I was making my selections. Here are some inspiration boards showing the difference in the looks. Maybe I will get around to making a board with what we are actually using...
